The Health for north east London consultation – Delivering high-quality hospital services for the people of north east London – was held from 30 November 2009 to 22 March 2010. Thousands of people got involved in the consultation health fairs, events and meetings. The findings of the consultation were announced at a meeting held in public in July 2010.
GPs, doctors, nurses and other health professionals considered all the feedback received during the consultation. A series of events were held in September 2010 with health professionals, local authorities and patient and public representatives to discuss people’s concerns and ideas for improving the proposals. Useful feedback from the consultation and these events helped clinicians shape their revised recommendations.
These recommendations were further discussed with around 450 GPs in north east London, local councils and other stakeholders in October and November 2010. This engagement helped us to understand the views of GPs and stakeholders as part of the four tests set out by the Secretary of State for Health.

Proposals for improving hospital services approved
The joint committees of primary care trusts met in public on 15 December 2010 to consider revised proposals for urgent and emergency care, maternity, children’s services and the vision for King George Hospital.
The joint committees approved the proposals subject to assurances requested by GPs and stakeholder groups in the area. Changes are planned to take place over the next five years, once the right facilities and workforce are in place.
All of the reports presented to the joint committees are available to view here.
