How revised proposals were developed

During the consultation, many responses suggested useful ways in which improvements could be made to the proposals.

GPs, nurses, midwives, royal colleges, doctors, health professionals, stakeholders and patient and public representatives were involved in the developing amended recommendations, for instance:

  • Mothers told us they wanted more midwife-led care. Clinicians amended their recommendations to include a new ‘alongside’ midwifery-led unit at Queen’s and expanded midwifery-led units at other A&E hospitals;

  • Parents told us they were worried about too much travel if their children became sick. The recommendations were amended to help drive improvement of children’s services in local hospitals – reducing the need for children and their families to travel; and

  • Residents told us they were worried about having no A&E at King George Hospital. Clinicians recommended strengthening the original proposals and providing more resources for urgent care at the hospital.

Revised recommendations were further discussed with around 450 GPs in north east London, local councils and other stakeholders. Read more about the post-consultation engagement activities and meetings or click here to read the final clinical proposals.
