Feedback on the consultation

Royal College of Midwives comment on the Health for north east London consultation

Pat Gould, the Royal College of Midwives’ team manager for London, said;

“Healthcare for North East London has consulted with the Royal College of Midwives on their plans. Provided assurances on investment and training in maternity services and the number of midwives are sustained, we welcome this consultation process. We look forward to working with clinicians in North East London to develop the best possible maternity services for local mothers, babies and their families.”

Consultation feedback from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust

“As a dedicated provider of services for children we understand and fully support your proposals for surgery and care for children. We believe that the concentration of services to ensure a crucial mass of expertise for these higher risk patients is essential for both the safe and efficient running of services.”

Consultation feedback from the Royal College of Nursing

“The RCN endorses the proposal to locate elective and non-elective services on different sites, which we believe should reduce the number of operations cancelled.
We also support the concept of A&E, Critical Care and Maternity Delivery services at the same hospital as this can only improve patient care by having the availability of specialist services co-located.”

Consultation feedback from the Royal College of Physicians

“Firstly, we are very pleased to see that throughout the documents much is made of the need to increase specialist input in to the care of the acutely ill. There is very good evidence that this improves outcomes and we would regard this as very important and laudable part of the plans that have been made.

Secondly, we are pleased to see the statement that it is intended that Level 3 critical care is maintained for all accident and emergency departments who are receiving unselected medical admissions.

Finally, we are impressed by the plans to improve out of hours access to urgent care and would commend an integrated approach with involvement of both specialists and generalists in planning and delivering these services.”

Consultation feedback from London Borough of Newham

“We are in agreement with the need to focus complex care on fewer sites. This will mean that children in particular will be best placed to access the most efficient, safest and highest-quality services when The Royal London Hospital and Queen’s Hospital become these centres of excellence.”

Consultation feedback from Barking and Dagenham Local Involvement Network

Article 13 comment on consultation findings

Jane-Fiona Cumming, Director of Article 13 said;

“The consultation provided a real opportunity for people who find it difficult to access the normal channels, or get to grips with the information, to have their say about health services. Working with local NHS organisations, we spoke with 1,200 people at around 60 events. 36 different groups were involved – from children to the very elderly, people with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, a drug problem and many more.”

Ipsos MORI comment on consultation findings

Jonathan Nicholls, Research Director at Ipsos MORI, said;

“Our analysis indicates that there were concerns about some of the proposals being made around services at King George’s Hospital, particularly around issues such as transport, access and capacity.  At the same time, for most of the proposals, the balance of opinion was in favour of the changes being proposed, with many people welcoming the principle of creating specialist centres of care.”

Our independent assessors (Ipsos MORI) have reviewed and analysed all the consultation responses and presented their findings at a meeting in public of the joint committees of primary care trusts on Tuesday 13 July 2010. The committees also received other reports and assessments at this meeting.
