Heath for north east London held eight focus groups in October and November 2010 with women who have recently given birth; are pregnant; or who might use maternity services in future to understand the factors that influence the choices women make around maternity services.
The research found that women felt they are not currently well informed about the choices available to them. Improving information about maternity choices and providing more continuity of care during pregnancy will affect overall experience and exercising of choice.
