Ambulance journeys
Watch a series of short films on real life journeys where an ambulance has been called out to attend to a patient falling sick or involved in an accident. These films are broken down into two categories
1. Blue-light journeys – this is where the ambulance uses blue lights and sirens to take patients from the scene to the hospital as quickly and as safely as possible.
2. Non blue-light – this is where the patient’s condition isn’t as critical as it could be so they are taken to the hospital without lights and sirens on.
Blue-light journeys
Staff initially treat and stabilise patients on the scene and then continue their care throughout their journey to hospital.
While one member of staff drives the ambulance as safely and quickly (depending on the severity of the patient’s condition) as possible, the other crew member attends the patient.
If you were to have a heart attack in Romford and called 999 an ambulance crew would provide first class care and transport you to the Heart Attack Centre in Bethnal Green. This journey of over 13.6 miles takes just over 20 minutes during rush hour traffic in a blue light ambulance. Watch this journey filmed from an ambulance transporting a patient.
